What is Late Checkout?
A late checkout is when a guest is allowed to remain in their room past the hotel's standard checkout time, sometimes for an additional fee.
Most hotels set checkout time between 11am and 12pm. Guests frequently request late checkouts, especially business travelers with afternoon flights. Hotels handle these requests based on occupancy — if the room is not needed for an incoming guest, late checkout is often granted complimentary. If occupancy is high, a fee (typically 50% of the nightly rate) may apply and is posted to the guest folio.
Why Late Checkout matters
Late checkouts generate additional revenue when charged but delay room turnovers, potentially affecting incoming guests. Managing them requires real-time visibility into that day's arrivals and housekeeping capacity — something only possible with a live room status system.
