What is POS (Point of Sale)?

A Point of Sale (POS) system is the hardware and software used to process transactions where a sale occurs, such as a hotel restaurant, bar, or gift shop.

In a hotel context, POS systems are used in restaurants, bars, room service, spas, and retail shops. When integrated with the PMS, a POS transaction can be linked to a guest room, allowing the charge to appear on the guest folio without any manual intervention. The guest signs at the restaurant, and the charge is already on their bill when they check out.

Why POS (Point of Sale) matters

A POS system that integrates with your PMS means restaurant and bar charges post to the guest folio automatically. Without integration, staff must manually enter charges — a process that is slow, error-prone, and often results in missed revenue at checkout.
